Picasa Tips

The new version of Picasa has a few changes and the important ones are listed below. Hope this helps. S
Are "Labels" and "Albums" the same thing?
In Picasa 2.5 “Labels” are now called “Albums”. Albums are virtual groupings of photos that only exist in the Picasa software. Like a playlist, you can create combinations of any pictures in an album or use a single image in multiple albums without taking up extra space on your hard drive. If you delete pictures in albums, or whole albums, the original picture files will be untouched. There are two special albums called "Starred Photos" and "Screensaver" which are created by Picasa and cannot be deleted. Any starred photos will be automatically added to the “Starred Photos” album. The “Screensaver” album holds the photos that will be displayed using the Picasa Screensaver feature.

How do I view the originals of photos I've edited?
Picasa doesn’t automatically save your edits to the original photo files on your hard drive. When you save an edited photo in Picasa, it actually copies the original version into a hidden subfolder called “Originals.” The saved photo is really a copy of the original, with the edits applied. This subfolder will not be visible in Picasa, but it will be accessible on your computer.

How do I customize the buttons at the bottom of Picasa?
It is possible to customize the row of buttons that appear on the bottom of your Picasa screen. The Button Manager is accessible from “Tools” >"Configure Buttons." Using the Button Manager, you can add or remove buttons or change the order of your buttons. For example, if rarely use “Print,” you can remove this button. Or if you frequently use the "Collage" button, you can make that button first. At any time, if you would like to include all of the original buttons, select "Restore to Defaults.” This is available under “Tools” > "Configure Buttons.”

How do I add a keyword to a photo?
You can label photos in Picasa with a keyword that will allow you to easily search for that photo. To add a keyword to your photo click on "View" > "Keywords" or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL-K.To search for a photo with a keyword simply type the keyword in the search box that appears in the upper right-hand corner of the Picasa screen. This will trigger only photos with that keyword to appear.
