We often get asked what a memory stick is and what you can do with it. The info on our website was a bit outdated but we've just changed that.
A memory stick is an extremely useful item and very cheap!
USB Flash Drive? What is that?
A USB memory stick (also known as USB thumb drive, flash drive, pen drive or jump drive) is a portable memory storage. It is re-writeable and holds its memory without a power supply. Thumb drives will fit into any USB port on any computer.
It's a very convenient little tool and ideal for:
- transferring files of any format from laptop, desktop or network computers
- able to store - and transfer from one computer to the other - videos, pictures, MP3 music, text documents, schoolwork, .....- convenient for taking files between family or friends, library, classroom, home, work, .....
- much easier to carry around than lots of floppy disks or a CD- easy to understand, simply plug it into a USB port- able to provide fast transfer of information (much faster than floppy disks or CD's)- an alternative to accessing files via a network- able to cope with much larger file sizes than floppy disks- a convenient storage place for presentations- allows easy transfer between different computing platforms (e.g. Windows, Mac, Linux)
Memory sticks drives are available in storage sizes of up to 8 gigabytes. Most people, however, will find that sizes of 1 GB to 2 GB will do nicely. If you want to store mostly text, with few images, then an even smaller thumb drive may meet the need.
Memory sticks are stable, versatile, durable and portable data storage devices. As such they are ideal for almost any computer user who wants safe, long-term storage for a low price!
Thanks!
